When I am doing one-off document scans, I find that using my iPhone is super fast and convenient. As I explained in my iPhone document scanning comparison post, different apps have different strengths, and if I just am doing a quick scan I find that Genius Scan is a great app.
Yesterday I had a piece of paper about my son’s field trip, so I pulled out my iPhone, fired up Genius Scan, captured the image, and went to upload it to Evernote.
When I hit the Evernote icon, a box popped up saying that it was a Genius Scan+ feature, and would I liked to learn more about Genius Scan+?
The problem with getting old is that your memory starts to fail. I was sure that I had bought Genius Scan+, but I started to doubt myself. Did I mis-remember using it to upload to Evernote, Dropbox, and the like?
I went through the purchased apps in iTunes. Nope, no mention of Genius Scan+, just Genius Scan. Maybe I am going crazy.
Then I remembered writing this post about Genius Scan’s new interface. Yes, I definitely was able to export to Evernote back in August. What happened?
Then I looked through my email and found the receipt for the $2.99 for Genius Scan+. I was happy that I wasn’t losing my mind, but then I needed to figure out what on earth to do about this.
I was about to use my status as a famous and influential blogger[1] to ask Grizzly Labs for a promo code rather than try to deal with Apple to get my purchase back, when I came across this option in Genius Scan’s settings:
When I clicked Restore Genius Scan+ and typed in my Apple password, I was good to go and could then upload to all the cloud services that had previously been denied to me.
The fact that they have a menu option tells me that this is a pretty common problem, so if you have Genius Scan and have lost access to your Genius Scan+ goodies, try that settings option.
