Great tip Brooks. I’m a FileCenter user for quite some time now and didn’t know this.

Recently I switched from Windows to Mac though, so I will have to say goodbye to the FileCenter.

Do you have any advice for a Mac based alternative?

I dont know if anything quite like FileCenter on the Mac (unfortunately!). You might want to take a look at EagleFiler. I wrote about it here: http://www.documentsnap.com/eaglefiler/.
