Fujitsu ScanSnap On Windows 8 – Your Experience?

Windows 8Windows fans can rejoice because the latest and greatest, Windows 8, is now out and available for purchase.

As I do with every new major operating system release, I thought I would take this opportunity to get your feedback on how it is working with the Fujitsu ScanSnap.

Longtime DocumentSnap readers may remember that there were some issues with Windows 7 and the ScanSnap that were eventually cleared up, but it looks like Fujitsu is ahead of the game this time.

Online Update

If you have a newer ScanSnap (the ScanSnap S1500, ScanSnap S1300i, ScanSnap S1300, or ScanSnap S1100), your best bet is to do an Online Update.

To do an Online Update, go to Help > Online Update in the ScanSnap Manager software.

Specific Models

Fujitsu has provided Windows 8 compatibility pages for each model. Here you go:

It looks like things are mostly good-to-go, with the exception of some weirdness installing from the DVD. The pages for each model gives the workarounds for those.

Your Experience?

I haven’t seen any reports of any issues. However, if you have some, I have a feeling this workaround for an older Fujitsu scanner will probably do the trick.

Do you use a Fujitsu ScanSnap with Windows 8? Please leave a comment and let us know how it is working out for you.

I tried installing my iX500 and it does not install the Manager file so the machine turns on but does not run. Any ideas?

Just got my new windows 8 and my S510 does not work. Fujitsu gave a work around and they also had a form to request a form, then I downloaded the files and they just aren’t working. I guess I’ll have to buy a new scanner considering my business is paperless.

Same here with the s500 – not even recognised by device manager in w8.

However, vuescan (www.hamrick.com) installed, & the device manager instantly sees the scanner, and you can start scanning with the vuescan software.

So if they can do it, why the hell can't fu-jitsu???

mine is recognized but vuescan hangs when trying to scan.

What did you do as far as config?

I'm struggling to get the S510 working with Windows 8. Several re-installs and no joy. Control panel can't find any drivers.

the S1500 does not work with Windows 8. It's useless. You re-install the software and it works until you shut down your computer. When you fire up the computer again it does not work.

When you look for updates all you get is a Windows 7 service pak update.

Sad. I good product is now useless!

    me too. same issue.

Ricardo, as a follow-up. I ran ssv51l30W.exe on a windows XP machine, and moved the resulting extracted folder to a windows 8 pro machine, and successfully completed the install that way.

And you should be able to do the same with no problems.

Thanks Willie. I don't currently have Windows 8, so I'm a bit out of my depth here.

I bought a new pc (old one died) and have not been able to install my S1300. I get an error that the installation exe has stopped working!

ssv51l30W.exe is the file I downloaded from Fujitsu. Its supposed to launch a black cmd window and create a setup.exe file. Unfortunately it stops early with a message that the ssv51l30W.exe has stopped working and that windows must stop the program.

Ive restarted and tried again with the same results. Any help would be appreciated.

Ricardo, did you try running ssv51l30W.exe on a different version of windows and then moving the extracted folder windows 8, and then attempting the install using the setup.exe in that folder?

just installed my s1300i tonight and so far on win8 pro it is working fine. Could not get my bulletscan s300 to work on win8 so i replaced it with the scansnap.

Thanks so much for your report. Good to hear.

Nice post. I use my ScanSnap s1300i for most scans. I use CamScanner on my Android Samsung Galaxy SIII for odd notes and handwritten items in notebooks that I don't want to tear apart, One difference from the post however is that I scan most item to .pdf rather than .jpg because of Evernote's excellent OCR and search capabilities.

Hi, I have a SnapScan S1500, and so far I haven't been able to get it to work on Windows 8. The driver installs without issues, but when I try to scan the whole process halts with a window "ScanSnap Manger – Image scanning and file saving" that just hangs there.

Any idea on what to do?

Warm regards,

Svein
