Scan Documents On Android Using CamScanner

Since I recently posted about an iPhone document scanning app, it is only fair that I post about Android.

Since I only have an iPhone and don’t actually have an Android advice, this won’t be from personal experience (I wish there was a cheap Android equivalent of an iPod Touch, by the way. Someone please make one). However, I was pointed to CamScanner by IntSig by an Android-using friend.

CamScanner does pretty much what you would expect a scanner app to do these days: auto-crops and enhances, creates a PDF, allows you to share and upload to Dropbox, Google Docs, etc.

The software is free as a trial, but the trial version only has a limited number of documents and pages. After that, you need to purchase a license for the full version.

AndroidPIT has a pretty comprehensive review, so head on over there to read more. If you are wondering how CamScanner compares to other Android scanning apps, there is a forum thread over on the Android Forums discussing CamScanner vs. Droid Scan vs. Document Scanner.

How about you, do you have a favorite Android scanning app? Let us know in the comments.

CamScanner is one of the best apps for scanning a document but I can’t download documents from it. That is why I download the simple scanner. It is also quite a good app and I can download the scanned documents from it.

When update to new version, be carefully, backup your data or it be lost. The new apliaction only upgrade if you delete your previus version, and…….. erase all data.

Can someone comment on what CamScanner does that can't already be done by Evernote for simple snapshot-based notes? I'm cleaning up my apps and don't want redundancy.

Well, as a scanner, it is absolutely amazing! Better than my big scanner. However, Trying to name individual pages is next to impossible. It just keeps adding each scan then when you name it, it renames the group. Ie scan document one and name it, 01-15-2011. Easy right? Then scan document 2, Name it 01-16-2011. Now look at document one, it is no longer 01-15-2011 instead it is the 1st page of document 2 and both are now named 01-16-2011. I have searched and searched on how to correct this, but to no avail. I paid $5 for the app, and I could really use it, but I need to be able to name each page. If you can help, it would be much appreciated!

Sorry Kitty, I don't have an Android phone so I can't help but hopefully a reader can.

Kitty, I solved this prob on android phone by just hitting the back key after scanning each document. If you don’t hit the back key it keeps adding pages to the first document and then you can’t name them separately. so, scan, label, back key, this always works for me. I think there is a more complicated function under edit or move, but I find it pretty easy just to scan and label, one at a time. good luck
