PDFpen Version 6 Upgrade

PDFpen Version 6 Upgrade

PDFpen 6One of my favorite Mac applications for working with PDFs is PDFpen, and Smile (the maker) has just released the latest version: PDFpen 6.

When I was at Macworld I was able to take a quick peek, and the new update looks great. I’m happy to see it has been released.

I wouldn’t normally do a post about an application like this until I have had time to play with it myself, but in this case I wanted to give you a heads up because Smile has a special upgrade price for 2 days only. The upgrade pricing expires on March 20 at Midnight Pacific. So, if you are thinking about upgrading, make sure you do it before then.

Also, because of the way the Mac App Store works, if you were thinking of buying PDFpen but were holding off because of the price, now is the time to snap it up. Since the App Store doesn’t support upgrades, new customers get the upgrade price too.

The upgrade pricing is $29.99 for PDFpen and $39.99 for PDFpenPro.

New Features

There are some nice new features in 6 from a going-paperless perspective. Here are a few of them:

  • Export To Word: If you have a PDF and want it to be in Word format for you or others to edit, there are lots of ways to do that, and most of them are terrible. I was really impressed with the output that PDFpen 6 created from the demo that I saw at Macworld.
  • New Tool Bar: All of the editing features are now a lot more intuitive.
  • Auto Save: Nice to see it support this and Versions now.
  • Permissions: PDFpenPro can set a PDF so that it can not be printed, saved, copied, edited, etc., or the recipient needs to have a password.
  • Automatic Forms: PDFpenPro has always been able to create forms out of existing PDFs, but there is now a features where it will automatically try to detect the form fields. It looks quite cool.

iCloud

If you want to use iCloud with PDFpen, you must buy it through the Mac App Store:

Buy PDFpen 6 from the App Store

Buy PDFpenPro 6 from the App Store

If you want, you can also buy PDFpen directly from Smile, which is cool but you won’t have iCloud support.

I’m looking forward to putting Version 6 through its’ paces, so watch for future reports. Make sure you take advantage of the reduced pricing before March 20 if you are interested.
