FileThis Heads To The Cloud

FileThis CloudI am a big advocate of reducing as much paper input you can, and part of that is switching to paperless billing.

One issue with making that switch is you then have to go in and download all of your different statements, which is not exactly hard work but is still one more thing you need to do.

I’ve long been watching a service called FileThis, and I have written about their Fetch product and their iOS app. I have also met the people who run the company a few times at conferences.

FileThis lets you aggregate your online statements (or at least the ones that they support) and you then have control over where they go. You have been able to download them directly to your computer, or have them delivered to Dropbox, Evernote, Box, and a number of other cloud platforms. That way, they bring the documents to you.

I notice today that they have done a big relaunch of the service and have added the next logical step in their offering – FileThis Cloud. Instead of having the documents delivered to your computer, you can have them stored in their online document management system. It will even attempt to automatically file your documents for you.

Of course, the first thing that many people wonder about is how they are able to download your statements. For some of you, there is no situation where you would enter your bank credentials anywhere other than your bank’s website. Fair enough. For others who want the convenience, they have a comprehensive security page discussing their security practices.

This new version of FileThis is an interesting idea. They attack the paperless project from both angles – the retrieval and the storage/organization. I look forward to playing around with FileThis Cloud more.
