The Productive Macs Bundle, June 2012 Edition

Productive MacsEvery six months or so, the folks at Apparent Software release a group of Mac applications called the Productive Macs Bundle.

If you are not familiar with the bundle concept, how it works is that a group of software is sold together for a price much lower than if you were to buy them individually.

Often with these bundles there are one or two “good” applications, and the rest are so-so. The Productive Macs bundle is better than most, and I have bought it every time over the past few years.

What I like to do is highlight the software in the bundle that could be relevant to going paperless, so here are the key applications this time around:

  • DEVONthink: DEVONthink is an extremely powerful information management application. It can bring together all of your PDFs and other types of information. Many DocumentSnap readers use it to manage their documents.

  • Printopia: Printopia is most commonly known as a way to print from your iOS device to any printer, but I use it to create PDFs from my iPhone and iPad. I just paid $20 for this alone a few weeks ago (grumble grumble).

  • HoudahSpot: For some reason, I have never written about this program on the blog, but I will have to rectify that one of these days. HoudahSpot gives you a very powerful interface for finding files (including PDFs) on your Mac. You can also use it to tag documents.

  • Trickster: This one is a new one to me that has just launched this week.[1] It gives you one-click access to your recent files and folders. Handy for finding and saving documents that you’ve been working on.

There are other applications in the bundle that are good (hello, MailTags!), but these are the ones that I think can help with going paperless.

The Productive Macs bundle is only available until June 18, so if you are interested, go check it out. If you use that link you will be buying me a coffee, so thanks a lot.

  1. Well, relaunched. It used to be called Blast.  ↩
