Scan To Gmail With ScanDrop

Scan To Gmail With ScanDrop

Scan To GmailIf you want to scan to Gmail, it is not quite as straightforward as scanning to a normal email program. You generally need a helper application of some sort.

This post is a dual update to these two posts: How To Scan To Gmail With The Fujitsu ScanSnap and ScanDrop Updates Cloud Scanning. Unfortunately, what I am going to describe here only applies to the Mac version of ScanDrop. The Windows version does not yet have this capability.

Scandrop is an application made by the folks at OfficeDrop that allows you to scan to a bunch of cloud services like Evernote, Google Docs, Dropbox.

In the latest update, they have added the ability to scan to Gmail. This is handy because as I mentioned in my earlier post, there hasn’t been a good way to scan to Gmail on the Mac unless you are using Mail.app as your email client.

If you are using a Fujitsu ScanSnap, you will want to set up a ScanSnap Manager Profile to scan to the ScanDrop application. Here is a screenshot of my Applications tab, or you can see full setup instructions here.

If you don’t use a ScanSnap, not a problem. Just start ScanDrop manually and you can scan from right inside the application.

Either way, once you start ScanDrop you will be asked which cloud service you would like to scan to. As you can see, they’ve added quite a few since the last update.

In this case, you’ll want to choose Gmail. Once you do, it will take you to the ScanDrop application with an email composed and your scan already attached. One awesome feature is that it integrates with your Gmail contacts, so when you start typing a name it will pull up the email address.

Once you’ve typed your message, you hit the Send button and it will send your email with the document attached.

If you need to scan to Gmail or other cloud services, ScanDrop on the Mac might be worth checking out.
