Introducing the Fujitsu ScanSnap S1300i - and Win One!

Introducing the Fujitsu ScanSnap S1300i – and Win One!

ScanSnap S1300iSo, apparently it is New ScanSnap Friday today! Today Fujitsu is announcing the ScanSnap S1300i which (obviously) replaces the ScanSnap S1300, and you can win one from DocumentSnap. Read on for details on that.

I am hoping to get my hands on a review copy for you, but in the meantime here are the key new details.

Hardware

The ScanSnap S1300i hardware is cross-platform and is basically the same as the S1300, with one key difference: it is 1.5x faster. So, instead of 8 pages per minute, it is now 12 ppm. Nice speed bump.

Software

Fujitsu is also announcing some software updates that will come along with the S1300i:

  • Mobile: There will now be an Android version of their Scan To Mobile app, so you can now scan from the S1300i to your Android device over your local network[1]
  • Dropbox: If you have the Dropbox client installed, you’ll now have the option to scan to a folder on Dropbox through the ScanSnap Manager interface, and there will be a Dropbox Quick Menu option.
  • ScanSnap Folder: This is Windows only. Apparently this will give you a way to scan to a special folder on your computer, and then have that scan be attached to a web application like Gmail or a Windows application like Quickbooks. To be honest, I haven’t quite wrapped my head around this one yet, so I am looking forward to trying it out.

As always, I will keep my eyes open on the online shopping sites and let you know when the S1300i is available to purchase.

The ScanSnap S1300i is available on the online sites like Amazon, so check it out.

Win A ScanSnap S1300i from DocumentSnap!

I am super excited to announce the very first DocumentSnap ScanSnap giveaway: The fine folks at Fujisu have hooked me up with one ScanSnap S1300i scanner to give away to one lucky reader on Friday, June 29 at 12pm PST.

There are two ways to enter, and the winner will be chosen randomly:

Method 1: Twitter: Follow DocumentSnap (@documentsnap) and tweet something like the following:

I want to win the ScanSnap S1300i from @DocumentSnap #dss1300i http://dcsp.me/MBZNef

(The @DocumentSnap and #dss1300i need to be there!)

Method 2: Comment: Not on Twitter? Not a problem. Leave a comment below and tell me about the paper that you want to digitize.

  • Winners will be contacted by DM on Twitter or e-mail for commenters, so make sure you follow @DocumentSnap and/or enter your correct e-mail address in the comment (don’t worry, only I can see it).
  • Only one entry per person please.
  • The winner will be drawn randomly at 12pm PST on Friday, June 29. Entries must be received by then.
  • Due to shipping restrictions, the contest is only open to winners in the United States and Canada. Sorry about that.
  • Good luck!
[box type=“note”]The drawing is now closed, and the winner was awesome DocumentSnap reader Cindy. Thanks for entering, everyone![/box]

  1. Before someone asks, yes the scanner does need to be plugged into your computer. It works the same as the existing Scan To Mobile functionality.  ↩

Just having a baby did not help with my budget for a Fujitsu SnapScan. I've been longing to go paperless for years and dreamt of the day I could scan away the mountain of receipts and paperwork cluttering what was once a place I could call home. The pile of receipts has become so large that I see less and less of my family (literally).

I would be eternally grateful for this product. The SnapScan could restore order and harmony back into my life. Please, my baby needs a place to crawl and I need to be saved from this paper abyss! …Did I mention that this could save my marriage as well. Ok, I'm done.

Heh, so how scan to mobile works ? You need a pc or mac anyway 🙁 !

I had a flatbed for the longest time. I even put my hardest effort into going paperless for about two years with a flatbed (lack of money), obviously it’s not working. I’d scan my personal papers (put into an encrypted DMG, of course), coursework/homework (college stuff), miscellaneous information packets, my diploma, mail/letters, business cards, receipts, paperwork that comes with a purchase. Anything that’s paper would go in my scanner…as it has been, just not efficiently.

J Bel - June 30, 2012 Reply

I'd primarily use it for receipts, warranties, & manuals.

We have cabinets full of files, the floorboards groan under their weight. This scanner would be just the thing to dispense with these files once and for all.

Don - June 28, 2012 Reply

We decided to go paperless because our tiny attic office in Wyoming was becoming so choked with paper that there was nowhere for the dog to lay down. Our Fujitsu S1500 is doing a great job helping us empty the filing cabinets into the shredder. An S1300i for business trips would prevent the unwanted paper from ever darkening our door in the first place.

Remi G. - June 28, 2012 Reply

I have started a new business and I already have too much paper. The ScanSnap would be just the ticket to tame the beast.

Carol in California - June 28, 2012 Reply

Rhe - June 28, 2012 Reply

I have two great aunts, 91 and 93, on my Mom's side. Lately they've been getting their wills and trusts up to date. Since this part of my family came from the rural/mountainous North Carolina area, their values were always about family, not so much material goods. As a result, the largest portion of what my aunts have to leave their heirs consists of photos of when they were growing up. My aunts like as many personal interactions as they can get these days since they don't get out much, and often times only my aunts can tell who the people are in the photos. For these reasons, the ScanSnap 1300i would be ideal for gracefully digitizing this treasured history of ours.

My ScanSnap S1500 (coupled with Evernote & doxo) is a life saver! I have scanned my "Product Manuals & Home Receipts", so when there is a problem with an appliance or device in our home I no longer have to dig through files. A quick search on evernote and there it is;)

Robbin - June 27, 2012 Reply

Tax forms, bills, receipts, old manuals, (new manuals,) the list seems endless. 30 years of paper in boxes stuffed into closets. As you all know, a flatbed scanner does *not* cut it!

John - June 27, 2012 Reply

I currently scan important stuff on my flatbed scanner. It does a good job but hand loading each piece of paper and scanning is very slow. So I am not scanning everything I should be like a lot of bills, and insurance documents that just take too long. This sabotages what I am trying to do but until I can afford a document scanner, I just do what I can in the short amount of time I have.

Scott A. - June 27, 2012 Reply

We bought the 1500M but since we're scanning 50 years worth of documents we could use the streamlining of separate machines. It would be totally sweet to have one that works on USB power as well so we can double team on the laptop and desktop

I think the computer is less “stressed” seeking documents than I am searching mindlessly through boxes…that’s what I would do with the ScanSnap s1300i….Go Document Snap!!!

Perhaps it is because my flatbed scanner is sooo slow.

Well, winning a much more portable fast scanner would be wonderful as currently I'm only able to scan my backlog when at home even though I have a laptop pc; likewise with the 1300i, I could be caught up even faster from a 35 year [and 3 generation] backlog! Being an executor for numerous deceased relatives is an honour but a huge responsibility and involves mountains of paper, the information contained does need to be kept even if the bulk of the paper does not.

I have a lot digitized, but I'm afraid I'll lose something critical that isn't. Class lists from my teaching gigs in several countries. Receipts for travel that needs to be reimbursed. All the family stuff, because Mom is now in her late 80s and responsibility for keeping the family memorabilia together is falling to the next generation. It's endless. I have paper everywhere, and would I love to have a clear desk to work on.

We have recently moved our business record-keeping to a paperless system. Since I often work from home, though, it means constantly transporting our one scanner (a ScanSnap S1300). Having a scanner in the office would make things so much more efficient: we scan incoming checks and deposit slips, invoices, contracts, forms, statements, receipts, and anything else that we can't receive electronically in the first place. When I have the scanner at home, it scans kids' artwork, bills, letters and cards I want to save, insurance contracts, and anything else that doesn't have to stay in paper form.

I would scan and digitize all the documents in my file safe and my filing cabinet to reduce paper storage and just keep electronic copies in my home server. The flatbed scanner of my 3-in-1 printer without a document feeder is too cumbersome for the job. This ScanSnap S1300i is just what I need!

I have turned to Evernote as a way of going paperless. This Scansnap would be invaluable in moving years and years of accumulated paper into the cloud.

Have a Canon flatbed scanner but find the interface so poor that it’s not convenient enough for everyday scanning of receipts, bills, etc. so I am nowhere near paperless. ScanSnap would be a treat.

I would love to win one of these to scan receipts and all of the bills/literature that companies insist on sending me even though I've opted in to every "paperless" option available. Thanks!

In addition to the standard uses for receipts, medical records, and household paper, I have family memorabilia that I'd like to preserve, such as childhood drawings by now-grown children, newspaper clippings, and documents from reunions, all of which could be shared electronically after being scanned.

Oh to get all my medical records digital..seems they come multiple times and from multiple sources, ie: doctor, anithesiologist , hospital, insurance..

I would love this scanner to update my old S510 which does not work on my Mac. I use it to scan invoices and other important documents.

I want to go paperless, but more importantly, all of my paper and books that I've had in my graduate studies pursuing a PHD in clinical psychology needs to be kept so that I can review them for future reference in helping me be a better therapist and be kept up to date.
