Fujitsu ScanSnap Update For Mac OSX Snow Leopard Now Available

Fujitsu ScanSnap Update For Mac OSX Snow Leopard Now Available

Just got notified from Fujitsu so I am posting now. I haven’t tried it yet so I am sure there will be updates later.

Fujitsu announces ScanSnap Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard Update for ScanSnap S1500M, S300M, S510M, and S500M.

Updating select ScanSnap models listed above is a two part process. The first update restores features associated with ScanSnap Manager and the second update restores features assciated with FineReader for ScanSnap.

Note: These updates are for compatibility with Snow Leopard only. If you are using an earlier Mac OS, do not install these updates.

The updates are available here. Good luck and please let us know how your installation goes.
Update #1 Nov 14/09: Some users are reporting that the patch won’t install because it is saying “…could not be installed on this computer because the target ScanSnap Manager is not installed”, even when it is. User Bob in the comments below reports:

Make sure your old ScanSnap Manager folder is at the root level in your Applications folder – otherwise the updater will not see it and give you that error message.

Thanks Bob!

Update #2 Nov 14/09: As others have mentioned, so far only the ScanSnap Manager portion has been fixed, not the FineReader OCR part. Looks like that will still be coming. From Fujitsu’s website:

Step 7: The download for FineReader for ScanSnap update to Snow Leopard will be hosted by ABBYY but is not yet available. If you have already subscribed to be notified by Fujitsu regarding the Snow Leopard updates, an email will be sent to you when it is posted.

Please click on the following link to be notified by email when the Snow Leopard update for FineReader is available for ScanSnap S1500M and S510M.

https://www-s.fujitsu.com/us/services/computing/peripherals/scanners/sl_form.html

So, if you are still waiting for the FineReader update, you can sign up for notification from Fujitsu by clicking the link, or, of course, stay tuned here.

Update #3 Nov 19/09: The ABBYY FineReader for ScanSnap Snow Leopard Update is now available.

HI there,
I purchased a scan snap 5110EOX2 and have a MAC OS X 10.6. I am just staring to reseach and trial and error game. I have downloaded and installed many scansnap and patches:

ScanSnap_V22L11 (3).dmg
ScanSnap_V22L11.dmg
ScanSnap_V22L12_S510M_S500M_S300M.dmg
ScanSnap_V22L13-1.dmg
ScanSnap_V22L13.dmg
ScanSnap_V22L14.dmg
ScanSnap_V22L15.dmg
ScanSnap_V30L20W_S1500M (1).dmg
ScanSnap_V30L20W_S1500M (2).dmg
ScanSnap_V30L20W_S1500M.dmg
ScanSnap_V32L20W.dmg

I get the error: "Cannot run the update because the target ScanSnap Manager is not installed."

I have installed:
older managers for different scan snap models,
recommended manger,
updated mangers,
I have
moved incompatible scans nap folders & patched to trash and emptied trash,
rebooted
tired different usb ports
kept the scanner off and on during numerous downloads,
moved to application floder,
moved icon to toolbar(when I did it had a red circle and cross bar over icon)

I am new at this and basically trying out different solutions. Does anybody have any advice for me?

    Hi Cristy,

    (a) Go here and download V2.2L11: http://www.fujitsu.com/global/support/computing/p

    (b)
    1. Make a copy of the ScanSnap_V30L20 installer package. Put it somewhere you can modify it, like your desktop.

    2. Control-click or right-click on the package, then select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu that appears. That will open a folder showing what is in the package.

    3. Open the Contents folder and then the Resources folder.

    4. There should be a file in there called InstallationCheck. Control-click that file and choose Open With from the menu, then select TextEdit.

    5. When the file opens, scroll through it until you find a line that reads

    exit($EXIT_VALUE);

    Change that to

    exit(0);

    6. Save the file then try using the installer again. It should now bypass any pre-install checks and just work.

    (C) In the scansnap folder, use the Onlineupdate application to update the install.

    Good luck!

p.s. I don’t know why but I didn’t have to use Doug’s mad coding skilz to get the updates to install. hmmm. Well, I’m just glad it seems to have worked.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! I’m a single mom on a budget and took a chance buying an open-box Fujistsu S1500M for Mac on ebay. The seller didn’t have a Mac so sold it “as is” since he couldn’t test it. Came with all the CDs and manuals and cords, but he didn’t know for sure if it worked. He had tons of positive feedback going back years so I decided to chance it. I paid $230 for a brand new Scansnap for my business. I very much needed this to grow my business and so hoped it would work. Got it and everything seemed ok them when I tried to Save the scan into a folder, the frick-fracking application quit every time. I just about cried at the thought I’d wasted $230 (even though I knew that was a steal IF it worked.)

I googled around and found THIS site and thread and installed the patches and VOILA! 🙂

I am so grateful, thanks a million times!!

OK so I just downloaded FR4SS.mpkg from the link I posed above, installed and configured, and at least the scan to searchable PDF and scan to word doc (.RTF) work just fine.

Thanks to all who posted their tips/suggestions!

By the way, I got the 10.6.x compatible installer from here:

http://www.fujitsu.com/downloads/COMP/fcpa/scanne

On the same page (link below), there is a link to download FIneReader, which I'm doing right now.

I have a fi-5110EOX and using Doug Smith's instructions above to disable the "existing install" code causing the installer to quit managed to easily install into OSX 10.6.2 and standard scanning works just fine. Will try OCR, etc., later. Cheers Doug.

I've come up with even a quicker way to do the patching of V3.0 L20W to install it. I wrote a dmg installer patch which will directly patch the image file instead of having to go through all those steps.

Information on downloading it can be found here:

I managed the update ok and right afterwards I could scan fine, then subsequently the old flashing blue light came up on the machine when I pressed the "one touch" button on my 510m – no scan happening – same as before the Snow Leopard upgrade – any thoughts please

Oddjobboy - January 22, 2010 Reply

Doug you beauty. It was a bit of a faff having to change the installer like that but I couldn't get the installer to work on my Mac without your modifications – no matter where I put the old Scansnap folder or what I called it. Working 100% now thanks to you and chuffed to bits.

Thank you so much for these updates. I can now do everything except Scan to Print. This may be my printer's fault rather than ScanSnap's. I have the 5100M and am running 10.6. After the patch, I can scan to folder & email, but although the scan to print interface opens up, the printer never catches on. I have an HP 1012 laser jet and I did install new HP drivers for Snow Leopard, but it's still not quite working. Anyone else have this scan to print problem?

Can anyone tell me whether it is possible to run a scansnap scanner that is NOT an M model on a Mac?

I have the fi-5110EOX model dated 2004 which I have been using on my PC for 4 years or more. I have just seen the light and moved to an iMac but can't get the scan snap to work – even in a VMWare Windows Box.

Am I destined to just not be able to use this scanner or is there a magical solution?

    Brooks Duncan - December 19, 2009 Reply

    Hi Randall,

I was able to get the ScanSnap S300 working in VirtualBox on the Mac. Check the post here:http://www.documentsnap.com/using-a-windows-scans… . Haven't tried the fi-5110EOX specifically, but it might be worth a shot?

Also, try some of the links here:http://www.documentsnap.com/how-to-use-a-windows-

Oh Brooks – you (and Racerx90) are a LEGEND!

I ran Racerx's patch and it worked first time! Thank you thank you thank you times a MILLION!!!

Thank you for the kind words. Maybe a legend in my own mind, but I seriously doubt I'm a legend! 🙂

Thank you very much for this post and the one previous about the Scan Manager & Snow Leopard. Took 5 min to solve my Scan Manager Crashing problem!

I love it when people share their experiences.
Thanks again,
Chais

I had the same problem with the install not working even though my previous version was installed in the Applications folder with the proper name, etc. I did some poking around in the install package and figured out how to fix it. Here's how:

5. When the file opens, scroll through it until you find a line that reads

exit($EXIT_VALUE);

Change that to

exit(0);

6. Save the file then try using the installer again. It should now bypass any pre-install checks and just work.

I noticed that the Scan Snap Manager is not 64 bit, but almost all my other apps are using Snow Leopard. Is that a problem? Why didn't Fujitsu write the app in 64 bit?

Voki - November 14, 2009 Reply

Just tried to scan to word / excel, but it wouldn´t work because of Finereader which was not updated. Scan to folder works very fine. 🙂

pendolino - November 14, 2009 Reply

so is there any difference i should notice between the new and old? i was using the old one with snow leopard and it seemed ok.

Bill O - November 14, 2009 Reply

I'm having the same problem as Bob above – "I tried to install on Snow Leopard but got an error message saying it could not be installed on this computer because the target ScanSnap Manager is not installed (which it is)." I'm using a S500M. Very frustrating. Any suggestions? Thx, Bill

    Bob - November 14, 2009 Reply

Make sure your old ScanSnap Manager folder is at the root level in your Applications folder – otherwise the updater will not see it and give you that error message.

      Bill O - November 15, 2009 Reply

Thanks for the response, Bob. I'm not familiar with "root level." How do I move the application there?

Mike Martina - November 14, 2009 Reply

Questions, I'm confused. I have ScanSnap and the S1500M. Does ScanSnap Manger actually convert the file to PDF? I thought it used Acrobat to convert the scan to PDF but I"m told that Acrobat 8 Pro, that came with my Scansnap, is not able to create PDF"s in Snow Leopard. So you're saying that with this update Scansnap Manager creates and stores the PDF file to a folder (I use Yep for PDF management) without problems now? I've been waiting to install Snow Leopard until this is working.

    Brooks Duncan - November 14, 2009 Reply

Hi, that's right, you don't need Acrobat to export to PDF. The ScanSnap software will do that for you.

Ann - November 14, 2009 Reply

I received an email notification from Fujitsu this afternoon with a link to the update. I was able to install it and I was able to scan to folder again, yay! Thank you Brooks for all the information you have provided on your site, especially with this update issue.

    Brooks Duncan - November 14, 2009 Reply

Not a problem Ann, glad you have it working!

Christian Boyce - November 14, 2009 Reply

I installed the update tonight and it worked fine afterward. Glad I found the link to the fix here– didn't want to face life without the ScanSnap.

I am a former Yep user, now converted to Evernote, by the way. It makes a lot of sense to buy the Premium service so the documents that you scan will be OCR'd (on Evernote's server), making them MUCH easier to find later.

Bob - November 14, 2009 Reply

I tried to install on Snow Leopard but got an error message saying it could not be installed on this computer because the target ScanSnap Manager is not installed (which it is). Anyone else run into this problem?

    Bob - November 14, 2009 Reply

Got it to work – just had to move the old ScanSnap Manager folder to the root level to be recognized by the updater.

      Raul - November 14, 2009 Reply

I am sorry for my ignorance, but what do you mean by "root level"

    Jpro - November 16, 2009 Reply

No one can answer what the "root level" is. Mine is in the default location that the installer installed it; in the Applications folder. What "root level"?????

      Gabriel - November 18, 2009 Reply

You are right. The Applications folder is indeed the "root level" meant here so do make sure that your ScanSnap Folder is found immediately inside the Applications Folder and is not buried deeper into another folder inside the Application Folder.

      Hope it makes sense.
