Fujitsu ScanSnap on Windows 7 – Your Experiences?

windows7home.jpg

Well, Microsoft’s latest version of Windows, Windows 7, gets released today. Similar to what we did with OSX Snow Leopard, I thought I’d make a post so that we can share our experiences using the Fujitsu ScanSnap with it.

I haven’t seen anything official from Fujitsu, but if I had to guess I would say that the ScanSnap S1500 will probably be OK, but the older models such as the S510 and S300 will require a bit more work to get working.

Since I have neither Windows 7 nor a Windows ScanSnap, I am relying on Google and you guys here.

This post from SevenForums seems to have a workaround to get the older ScanSnaps working.

Hopefully the Windows 7 release goes a bit more smoothly than the Snow Leopard one did. If you have any experience getting your ScanSnap working with Windows 7, leave a comment and let us know. I’ll post any relevant updates here.

Update: Fujitsu has posted a support bulletin outlining what will be supported when. Basically:

  • S1500: End of November 2009
  • S300: End of November 2009
  • S510: End of December 2009
  • S500: End of December 2009 (but it will not support 64-bit OS)

I bought a new PC with Windows 7 and my Scansnap S510 did not work on it… error: "will not work on 64-bit machines." After consulting with Fujitsu, they said Win7 drivers for the Scansnap S510 are not yet available for 64 bit PC's (it appears the 32 bit machines will work) but are being developed now and will be available before the end of the year. So, now my Scansnap won't work on my PC nor my Mac. I'm going to try your "How to use a Windows Scansnap on a Mac" instructions one more time, but so far I have had no luck – it keeps telling me that Scansnap is already installed on my Macintosh HD.

I just successfully installed my S510 on my Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit system. Credit belongs to: http://www.sevenforums.com/drivers/9239-fujitsu-s…

As indicated in the referenced forum, I installed the S300 64-bit Vista driver, updated it via Internet, then used the SsDrvRepair-x64.exe in the C:Program Files (x86)PFUScanSnapDriverSsDrvRepair folder. It pops up a big red warning against installing unsigned drivers, i install anyway. And it works!

Have spent days trying to get our S500 to work with Windows 7
Two calls and one very long chat seesion with tech support.
All software upgrades installed but problem still exists. ScanSnap Manager hangs (never shows page count and cannot be stopped unless using task manager to end program). "Almost" produces a pdf file. Desktop is full of these now: 20101229110927.pd~
No results yet. This is a real PAIN.
I will call tech support again to try to resolve. Soutions above regarding SsDrvRepair-x64.exe might help, but I dont have that file (yes I have searched hidden and system files). I presume this came with Vista driver????
In any even its not in any of my ScanSnap files here: C:Program Files (x86)PFUScanSnapDrivers

Any help would be great. Thanks!

Thanks BrooksD. Actually have done that. It was one of the first things I tried. The ssdrvrepair was not included in the download. UGH!
