This is Day 6 in a 12 Day series: 12 Days Of Paperless Gifts. If you know someone who could use some help going paperless, or if you deserve to treat yourself, this is the place. If you don’t, feel free to ignore this series. Normal DocumentSnap posts will still be coming!
When going paperless, backing up your computer (or at least your documents) is absolutely not optional. Sooner or later your computer’s hard drive is going to fail or you are going to delete something you wish you hadn’t.
At the very least, you should be using an external drive of some sort to back up your documents locally.
Here are a few options:
Western Digital Elements 2.5TB
- Who is it for?: Users that want a quiet USB hard drive that doesn’t come with a bunch of software they don’t need. Just a good drive. I have three of these (yes, I have a problem).
- Where can I buy it?
Amazon US
Newegg Canada
Data Robotics Drobo
- Who is it for?: Users who want to be extra-safe with their data and want redundant storage – if one hard drive fails it doesn’t matter, the others will keep going with no loss of data
- Does it come with a hard drive?: No, you buy that extra. May I suggest a few WD Elements drives mentioned above?
- Where can I buy it?

Newegg Canada
