Let’s say that you are so successful at going paperless that you have one or more filing cabinets sitting around empty. Nice job!
But what do you do with that filing cabinet once the last piece of paper has been shredded? If you’re boring like me, you’ll use it to store old-school Wired magazines, but normal people can find more creative uses. Here are a few that I’ve stumbled across:
Turn Your Filing Cabinet Into A Planter
Design*Sponge has before and after of an amazing transformation. Chad Kelly took an old filing cabinet and turned it into a super-cool looking garden planter.
Chad has more about the project on his site, and if you are looking for step-by-step instructions for something like this, DIYlife has them.
Turn A Filing Cabinet Into Garage Storage
I suspect that many of us have taken old filing cabinets out to the garage and used them to store stuff, but not like this.
Trash to Treasure has step-by-step instructions for turning their old cabinet into an awesome looking garage storage unit. I need to do something like this for my in-laws.
Organize Your Closet
I think most of us have “that closet” – the one that stuff gets shoved into. EnviroMom took some old filing cabinets that she was going to get rid of anyways, and turned them into a closet organizer.
These are just a few creative uses of filing cabinets that I have come across online. Have you done anything interesting with yours? I’d love to hear about it.
