Really? - My experience was the exact opposite. While on paper and feature wise, NeatWorks looks absolutely fantastic, in practice it just does not work! - It is just so horrendously unstable, it's practically unusable!

NeatWorks is at version 3.5 now and they had many years to fix the bugs yet it's still practically unusable. I made a short video review, hope somebody finds it useful: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DoUcSE6Mf7M

Hi, I don't believe you can scan without using the Neatworks file system, but what you can do is set up your folder in Neatworks to sync/export to an external folder. So if your goal is to scan with Neatworks and have the file appear on your desktop, you can do that in the properties in Neatworks.

I have my NeatWorks library in my computer and it is backed up to my Time Machine, however, I would like to also save a copy to a portable passport drive. How can I do that?

Hi Noah, it looks like I have NeatWorks 2.1.4 (214017) installed and ScanSnap Manager 2.2 L10. I'll dig around and see if I can think up what might be wrong. It sounds weird.

Someone else (unless it was you?) had a similar problem in the comments here: http://www.documentsnap.com/how-to-use-neatco-nea...

He never could (that I heard) get NeatWorks to "see" ScanSnap Manager, but he went the other way and added a NeatWorks profile manually to ScanSnap Manager and that did work. Let me know if you need any help doing that.

Can you let us know what version of ScanSnap Manager you have installed as well as what version of Neatworks you are using? After reading your blog I bought a copy to use with my ScanSnap but I get the following error when I try to configure NeatWorks to use the ScanSnap:

Fujitsu ScanSnap Manager software is not installed. blah blah...

Of course it is an works fine. I checked with the Fujitsu web site and I am running the latest available version there - 2.2 L11.

NeatWorks support has been terrible. It's been 10 days since I filed a support ticket and the response has been make sure you have the latest ScanSnap Manager and reinstall Neatworks. Neither of which fixed this issue.

Thanks!

-Noah

@deb I don't believe so. I checked the forums for NeatCo and it looks like a lot of people are asking for that, but nothing as of yet.

Great review Brooks.

I came across a video (dated Jan. 2009) that had a NeatCo rep. talk about a new version of NeatWorks due out Spring/Summer 2009. He said that it is a timed release with Apple's new Snow Leopard. I'm curious if this release will address the speed issue you mention. One can hope.

Thanks again for the great review and look forward to the NeatWorks/Scansnap post.
